This course provides training which provides the skills and knowledge to operate effectively in the grain supply chain post-farm gate. The job roles relevant to this include
• Grain Broker
• Grain Adviser
• Grain Merchandiser
• Grain Trader
• Grain Marketer
• Grain Storage/Facility Manager
• Grain Logistics Manager
• Grain Exporter
• Accountants and other support professionals working in the grains industry

Skill sets will also be delivered to grain producers to facilitate their handling and handling and marketing grain post-farm gate. The following job functions/duties/specialist skills relevant to management of the grain supply chain are taught and assessed in the course:
• implement grain industry standards
• prepare accounting reports and document costs for grain trading
• measure and manage trading risk for grains
• undertake appropriate hedging of grains contracts
• apply the grain trade dispute resolution process
• use grain trading contracts including cash contracts and pools
• use futures contracts to manage grain price risk
• evaluate grain marketing options
• provide recommendations on grain trading options
• trade in domestic and international markets

The original industry consultation indicated that the key outcomes for all grain industry post-production employment sectors were that course graduates needed to be able to apply grain industry standards, apply a knowledge of trade rules and analyse contracts, and be able to develop a marketing strategy for grain. These outcomes are captured in the three core units of the Diploma of Grain Management.
